Funeral Grant

Our Funeral Grant provides financial assistance for the burial expenses of the deceased. It is paid on the death of an insured person, invalidity , or age pensioner, or his/ or her spouse or a dependant child.

WHO QUALIFIES
  • Anyone who is responsible for the funeral expenses of the deceased. That person must bring the receipts and the death certificate to substantiate this.
  • The Insured person must have been insured with the NIS for at least twenty-six (26) weeks.
AMOUNT OF BENEFIT

The amount of the funeral grant shall be:

  1. With respect to the death of an insured person, an invalidity pensioner, or age pensioner – $4,535.
  2. With respect to the death of the spouse of an insured person, and invalidity pensioner, or age pensioner – $2,262.50.
  3. With respect to the death of a dependant child of an insured person, and invalidity pensioner, or age pensioner based on the age of the child at death:

  4. Funeral Grant with respect to Non-Contributory Assistance Age Pensioner (NAAP):

    2. Spouse of a NAAP Pensioner – $1,131.25

WHEN TO CLAIM
  • The claim for Funeral Grant must be submitted no later than six months after the death of the Insured person, or his/her spouse.
  • The claim form must be accompanied by the death certificate and all receipts for the funeral expenses. The receipts MUST be in the name of the person making the claim or an authorized representative.
